Police release more information on deadly shooting in Danville

Antone Akroush, 75 of Markham, is being held without bond in the Vermilon County jail for allegedly shooting and killing Imad Farah Shteiwi, 55 of Danville.

Officers arrested the Markham resident shortly after the deadly shooting around 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. The Vermilion County State's Attorney's office says he was arraigned Wednesday on four counts of first degree murder.

Danville police were called to the South Lake apartment complex on Townway Road where they found Shteiwi who had been shot several times.

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson says preliminary autopsy results reveal that Shteiwi died from multiple gunshot wounds. Police caught up with Akroush within ten minutes after arriving at the scene and arrested him off of west Newell Road near Wal-Mart.

Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says that the suspect and the victim knew each other but would not comment on a possible motive in the shooting. He says that's up to the state's attorney's office to determine for their case.

Akroush is scheduled to return to court on the four counts of first degree murder for a preliminary hearing on March 12th.
