Dive team called out for water rescue in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A 34-year-old man who died shortly after being pulled from Lake Springfield Tuesday has been identified. 

Sangamon County Coroner identified the man as Averill McDonald.

Tuesday afternoon, the Springfield's dive team was called out for a water rescue in the 400 block of East Lake Shore Dr.

A Rapid Diver was used to help extract McDonald who had been underwater for five minutes. McDonald had no pulse when he was pulled out, but EMS managed to revive him on the scene. 

McDonald was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His death remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner and the Springfield Police Department.
