Champaign City Council Looking To Fill Vacancy

The City of Champaign is now accepting applications from residents interested in filling the upcoming vacancy in the District 4 Council office.  Applications are available on the City’s website HERE.

You can also get applications in the Mayor’s Office at the Champaign City Building on 102 N. Neil St..  The deadline to submit completed applications to the Mayor’s Office is 12:00 p.m. on March 22, 2016.

Qualified applicants for the District 4 Council vacancy must:

·        Have resided in Champaign’s Council District 4 for at least one year preceding the appointment.

·        Be a qualified elector.

·        Be current in payments of taxes/debts due the City of Champaign.

·        Not have been convicted of infamous and certain other crimes.

The Champaign City Council will review the applications and subsequently interview qualified applicants during a Special Study Session meeting on March 29, 2016.  The City Council is expected to appoint someone to fill the vacancy at their regular meeting on April 5, 2016.  The appointee would fill the District 4 seat until the Consolidated Election in 2017.

In February 2016, current District 4 Council Member Marci Dodds announced she was relocating out of the area and would resign her City Council seat effective March 23, 2016.  By state statute, the City Council is required to fill the vacancy within 60 days of that date – or before May 22, 2016.
