Decatur recognized as 'City to Watch'

DECATUR – The Decatur City Council met in an executive session on Monday, August 10 and made a decision in regards to who they want to replace the late Mayor Mike McElroy.

According to City Manager Tim Gleason, the council wanted an internal candidate to fill the position. Gleason has been directed to prepare a resolution for the council's next meeting with Mayor Pro Tempore Julie Moore-Wolfe's name on it. She is expected to be appointed on Monday, August 17. If she is appointed, she would be sworn in the same night.

Following the August 17 meeting, the council would then make an official call to the community for expressions of interest for the vacant city council seat.

Moore-Wolfe would serve as mayor until the next mayoral election in 2017, if appointed.
