Generic police lights

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Close to 50 laptops were stolen from a portable classroom at Franklin STEAM Academy in Champaign over the summer.

The News Gazette reports the theft was discovered Wednesday, just one day before classes began.

A second burglary happened Aug. 21 when additional Chromebooks and laptops were stolen from the same classroom trailer, the News Gazette said.

There was no sign of forced entry.

An insurance claim has been filed by the district to replace the equipment.

The value of the stolen electronics was around $22,000.
