STATEMENT TO VOTERS:
Four years ago, I promised to cut spending, toe the line on taxes, and improve how the City interacts with other taxing bodies. I was determined to be different; to be one elected official who actually lived up to the commitments I made to you. It hasn't been easy but I feel good about the results. My efforts to persuade the Council to change our health care TPA has saved over $1 Million this year over last year, and almost $1.5 Million less than budgeted. My persistence on Property Tax issues (a dollar levy as to opposed to a tax rate) saved us $300,000 this year and stopped the $1.1 Million increase requested for next year. Our relationships with the Park District, County government, and District 61 have never been better. I'm proud to have had a role in that and look forward to working with these groups as we find ways to improve efficiencies in government.
The next four years will present challenges that I'm prepared to tackle. We'll have to make difficult decisions and watch every dollar we spend in order to continue to provide the services that the people of Decatur deserve and expect. You will know where I stand on an issue and I'm always available to listen to your ideas and concerns. With your help and support, we can work together to improve Decatur for all of our residents.
