Fifth suspect in string of armed robberies arrested

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A fifth suspect is behind bars after police say three armed robberies happened on the same night.

Police arrested Raymond D. Graham, 24, after 2 a.m. Tuesday. He and four other suspects, including a 16-year-old minor, are accused of stealing guns and cash from three different Decatur houses on Nov. 20. The other adults in custody include 18-year-old Dondrion Austin, 18-year-old Rahiam Shabazz and 19-year-old Byron Theus.

Officers say they caught the other four suspects after the final home invasion, which happened at a N. 33rd St. address. They say a grandfather at that address noticed two men holding handguns in the living room and tackled one of them before grabbing the barrel of the other suspect’s gun. A third suspect then entered the room, sworn statements say, and hit the man on his head with a gun before all three kicked him.

Statements say three of the suspects went around the house taking things before coming back from a bedroom with the man’s 6-year-old grandson. Police say a suspect put a gun in the child’s mouth and threatened to shoot him if the grandfather didn’t tell them “where everything is”. They’re accused of stealing four guns from a safe and cash.

The first two armed robberies happened in the 400 block of Shadow Ln. and the 1800 block of N. Summit Ave., police say.

Graham faces armed robbery, home invasion and aggravated battery charges. His bond is set at $600,000 in Macon County.
