Illinois to pay approximately $4 million to mail ballot measure information

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Department of Labor officials say the Amusement Ride and Attraction Safety Divison will start performing routine inspections on rides and attractions scheduled for the Illinois State Fair on August 11.

The state Department of Labor inspects every ride and attraction open to the public at least once a year, and that operation permits are only given out after the ride or attraction meets or exceeds safety requirements.  Officials say inspectors conduct almost 4,000 ride inspections at stationary parks, traveling carnivals, and fairs throughout Illinois.

IDOL officials say parents should remind children to stay on the ride, and to keep their heads, arms, and legs inside the ride at all times.  Additionally, individuals are asked to follow height and weight requirements for each ride, and to always use the ride's safety equipment.
