Kmart in Springfield to shut down

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – A Springfield Kmart store will shut down along with dozens of other Sears Holdings stores.

The company says 40 stores in total will close in February, with liquidation sales beginning in the second half of the week of Nov. 12, according to CNBC. The Kmart store at 3250 Clear Lake Road in Springfield is closing.

Sears Holdings already planned to close 142 other stores it called unprofitable by the time 2018 ends. It filed for bankruptcy in October.

CNBC says Sears Auto stores at the 40 locations will likely be part of the shutdown.

The network points out other retail companies are also closing brick-and-mortar stores, including Toys R Us, Bon-Ton and others.
