Potential jurors for Yingying Zhang trial to get list of questions

PEORIA, Ill. (WAND) - Potential jurors in the kidnapping and murder trial of Yingying Zhang will be getting a long list of questions.

The News Gazette reports potential jurors will be given a 31-page questionnaire.

Questions include asking them about their use of dating apps or websites, their taste in books, and whether they listen to talk radio.

The trial is set to begin in April 2019.

Brendt Christensen is charged with kidnapping and killing Chinese scholar Yingying Zhang. Her body has not been found.

Lawyers said the questions will help them pick an impartial jury.

Some questions are obvious, such as asking for opinions on crime issues, their views on the death penalty.

Others seem more random... such as asking if a juror enjoys movies or has their own web page.

Both the defense and prosecution is able to ask the judge to strike a juror they think may not be impartial. They are also able to strike 20 jurors without cause.
