SPRINGFIELD - The Pillsbury Mills Neighborhood Association is teaming up with the Springfield NAACP and Sangamon Valley Group of the Sierra Club to host community meetings to discuss environmental concerns at the Pillsbury Plant.

The meetings will take place at 6:30 p.m. on November 24 at the Springfield Public Library, and at 6:30 p.m. on January 5, 2016 at Zion Baptist Church.  The public is invited and encouraged to attend both events.

Officials say they hope to raise awareness about the plant, which they say is allegedly posing a significant environmental and health hazard to the neighborhood.  The Pillsbury Plant opened in 1929, and was eventually sold to Cargill in 1991.
