Sliders contemplate video gaming upgrade

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – A Springfield baseball team is considering adding gambling to its game day experience.

Springfield Sliders executive director Todd Miller says the baseball team is considering adding five video gambling machines to the club room at Robin Roberts Stadium. He says the team is contemplating the move after a flurry of public feedback in support of it.

The Sliders expect to vote on the topic soon.

Miller says the machines would need over a month for installation, meaning they would only be available until the season ends in September. He plans to go through a trial run before the end of this season and potentially keep them up for longer next year if they prove profitable.

Springfield generated over $43 million in net gambling activity from video gambling between January 2016 and this month.
