SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Stevenson Inn sat empty Friday night after residents vacated their rooms earlier in the evening.
Owner Anil Suthar released a statement saying the closure was due in part to a legal dispute between the inn and its bank. He added he wants to work with the city and local organizations to find new accommodations for those displaced.
Earlier reports had listed an overdue electric bill was the reason for the closure. Suthar denied that in his statement and a spokeswoman from CWLP said the Stevenson Inn was in no danger of having its power cut off.
Suthar also disputed reports that residents were only told Monday of the impending closure. He said he gave more than 30 days' notice to tenants in late September. WAND News has not been able to independently verify those claims.
