SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - High school students placed 200 wreaths on the graves of veterans at Glenwood Cemetery Friday.
Horticulture students made the wreaths as part of a three-year-old effort called Remembrance Wreaths.
“At Shelbyville High School, we think there’s a link between service-learning and student wellness,” said teacher Kyle Ladd. “We’ve found in years past that, when we engage kids in opportunities where they can give back, they find a lot of meaning in the learning process.”
Students placed some wreaths on requested graves and placed others on graves anonymously.
“There’s a lot more than I thought there would be here,” said sophomore Kade Kull. “I’m really happy we have all those people that served here.”
“They did so much for us, and I feel like standing out here for a few hours is nothing compared to what they did,” said sophomore Kynlee Summers.
