SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND)- Police say a suspected gang member has been arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to Springfield Police, on May 1, at approximately 8:36 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Department Street Crimes Unit received information regarding a subject illegally possessing a firearm.
When officers attempted to make contact with the subject in the 1300 block of South Grand Ave East, he fled on foot.
After a brief foot chase, Arthur McClain, 26, was taken into custody.
Following the arrest, a Springfield Police Department K-9 Unit, Chaos, assisted officers with an article search along the path of the foot chase.
Chaos was able to locate the firearm during the search. Police recovered a loaded Taurus 357 revolver.
McClain has been charged for unlawful possession of a weapon by a street gang member, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and resisting a peace officer.
McClain is in custody at the Sangamon County Jail; his bond has been set at $250,000.
