Three charged in Urbana shooting, attempted home invasion

URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - Three people who police said planned to rob a drug dealer's home and one who fired a gun are facing charges.

18-year-old Damyan Shepherd of Mahomet, his half-sister, 21-year-old Krista Shepherd of Gibson City, and 24-year-old Andrew Golding of Champaign are all charged with conspiracy to commit home invasion and attempted home invasion.

Golding is also charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Police said on April 17, the trio tried to break into a home on Cedric Drive in the Ivanhoe Estates Mobile Home Park. Several shots were fired from outside the home into it.

Each have a bond of $150,000 and are due back in court June 12.

Investigators said Krista Shepherd told them the three had planned to rob the home for a while, knowing one of the occupants sold drugs. Krista used to date one of the residents. She planned to get him to open the door while her half-brother and Golding would rob him.

Golding reportedly also told police he and Damyan would rough the resident up.

Krista said the resident knew something was wrong after she knocked on the door and quickly closed it and locked it.

Investigators said Golding got angry and fired several shots at the door. No one inside was injured.

Officers said cellphones connected from the three showed texts about the plan.
