Urbana man faces sexual assault, abuse charges

URBANA - Authorities say charges have been filed against an Urbana apartment complex maintenance man who allegedly sexually assaulted a girl who visited the building often.

On Thursday, Norman Simpson, 65, was charged with one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.  Champaign County authorities say Simpson allegedly assaulted the girl, who is now 11, when she was between the ages of six and 10.

According to Assistant State's Attorney Tim Sullivan, the girl was listening to a presentation on body safety at school on Monday when a social worker saw that she was crying.  Sullivan says school officials notified authorities after the girl said she was touched inappropriately by Simpson.

Simpson is currently being held on $750,000 bond.
