CHINA -- All he does is win.
Springfield native Ryan Held added two enormous accolades to his swimming career before he graduates from North Carolina State this month: national record holder and world record holder.
His blistering 45.82-second leg in the 4x100 freestyle during the preliminaries of the world championships beat the old American record of 46.25 seconds, and when he helped Team USA to a first-place finish in the finals (3:03.03) he set a new world record. Talk about a successful week.
The Sacred Heart-Griffin graduate now holds an Olympic gold medal, four NCAA titles and 25 All-America honors.
