CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Illini sent more than 41,000 fans home happy Saturday after taking down Nebraska 30-22 to kick off the college football season.

Game day started off at Grange Grove for the Illini Walk. The Illini faithful welcomed the team as they made their way from the bus to the gridiron.

CHAMPAIGN, IL. (WAND-TV) -- The Illini football team held its annual football media day this past week as the WAND Sports team covered every aspect of the event. 

From hearing from Head Coach Bret Bielema to various players, the Illini provided answers to questions about their home and season-opener to who would be starting in which positions.

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Casey Acree was born a little different than everyone else. 

Acree was born without a fully-developed left arm. Doctors said it stopped growing in the womb.

DANVILLE, IL. (WAND-TV) -- For what some hopes to be the first of many to come, the city of Danville was home to a basketball tournament for adults and teenagers. 

Started by Dwight Lucas, who was also responsible for starting up the Dust Bowl, an eight-team tournament was held where even a former NFL player competed.

SPRINGFIELD, IL. (WAND-TV) -- Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and former Sacred Heart-Griffin star Malik Turner returned to Springfield Saturday morning to host two camps for children ages 7-14. 

Partnered with players and coaches from SHG, along with fellow NFL and former SHG star, Denver Bronco Albert Okwuegbunam, Turner brought "Compete with Leek" to central Illinois for what he hopes will be the first of many camps.
