DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - There's no denying that summer so far, has felt relentless when it comes to the heat and humidity.

We see hot and humid days every single year, but is this year any different?

At it's surface it may have felt abnormally warm, but at a closer look shows it really hasn't veered too far from "normalcy".

So far, the summer of 2025 has brought us 17 days in which temperatures have been at or above 90°. 11 of those days came in the month of July.

While it was a rough month for heat and humidity during that time period, June was spot on with what we would expect temperature wise. In fact, it didn't vary a full degree compared to the monthly average.

Meanwhile, the entire month of July averaged to be 2° above normal. While that does not seem like a whole lot, 2° can make a big difference, especially when combining it with the extended period of high humidity Central Illinois endured.

So, has this summer been brutal? It's all in the eye of the beholder, but statistically, July was a rough month.

Thankfully, August is starting off on a positive note with temperatures aroun 80°. However, the forecast is already calling for a slow increase in heat and humidity by late next week.
