GLENARM, Ill. (WAND) — One person was found dead inside a car on fire Saturday, according to the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said a passerby noticed a Kia SUV stopped in the road around the 600 block of Horse Farm Road near Glenarm Saturday morning. The person couldn't tell if the vehicle had anyone inside. 

Around 10:15 a.m., the same person saw smoke coming from the vehicle. The witness called 911 as the flames spread in the car.

The Divernon Fire Department found one person dead after extinguishing the fire. Circumstances around the death, such as whether the person was already dead or died in the fire, have not been released.

The vehicle is registered to an address in Springfield.
