EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) — The Effingham Fire Department shared on its Facebook page that crews put out a fully engulfed house fire in the 300 N 1st Street block early Saturday morning.
The department said that on November 23, around 3:45 a.m., fire crews found a fire fully engulfing a house in Effingham.
Due to the extensive heat and flames, a neighboring home sustained around $50,000 in damages.
The house the EFD put out the house fire at is a total loss with estimated damages around $100,000.
Because the house had suffered significant damage, Effingham County K9 Search and rescue helped ensure with a search dog that there were no victims.
Firefighters, involving multiple agencies, remained on the scene for over three hours to get the fire out. The Effingham Police Department, Effingham City Dispatch, Rural Med EMS, Shumway Fire Protection District, Altamont Fire Protection District, Edgewood Fire Protection District, Ameren Electric and Gas, and Effingham Public Works assisted the EFD.
The Montrose Fire Protection District, Greenup Fire Protection District, and the Neoga Fire Protection District provided station coverage during the fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
