DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Decatur Fire Department responded to a fire at an abandoned home late Sunday evening.
Fire crews said they arrived in the 1700 block of East William Street Sunday evening around 9:15 p.m. for a reported structure on fire.
When they arrived, crews discovered heavy flames coming from the back of the home, extending across multiple floors. Firefighters quickly confirmed that the residence was abandoned and unoccupied before initiating an interior fire attack.
The incident was escalated to a Second Alarm to request additional resources and personnel.
Firefighters remained at the scene for about three hours to control the blaze. The structure was considered a total loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Decatur Fire Department Investigators.
