Update: As of 3:40 p.m. all lanes are open. Officials say the semi trailer remains on the shoulder awaiting a tow, and ask drivers to use caution in the area. Backup is still present at this time.
RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) — Officials with the Illinois State Police say to take another route if possible due to a semi on fire just south of Rantoul on I-57.
Around 2:40 p.m. on Oct. 10, a semi on fire near milepost 248.5 near Rantoul blocked a lane and caused significant backup.
If possible, drivers are asked to seek an alternate route via U.S. Rt. 45 and Illinois Rt. 47.
