Argenta officials add medicine disposal box at Village Hall

ARGENTA - Argenta officials have announced that an unwanted and expired medicine disposal box has been installed at the Village Hall.

With the addition of the box, the Argenta Village Hall has become the fourth location in Macon County to safely accept and dispose of unwanted and expired medicines.  The collection program was initiated by the Macon County Sheriff's Office, with the collection box being provided by the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant.

All four locations currently accept prescription medications, vitamins, supplements, and over-the-counter medications in the form of pills, tablets, lozenges, and capsules.  Medications in the form of creams, liquids, syrups, and ointments are not accepted at the Decatur Police Department location, but are accepted at the other three locations.

Aerosols, inhalers, thermometers, commercial waste, medical waste, and sharps, such as lancets and needles, are not accepted at any of the locations.  Those who dispose of medications at these sites will need to keep the substances in their original containers with the medicine's name clearly labeled.  However, individuals may choose to mark out their personal information.
