SPRINGFIELD – The Firefighters / Postal Club will be hosting a benefit for a Pawnee man with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on Sunday, November 8.

49-year-old Steve Sabo was diagnosed with the cancer on January 15, 2015. He received five rounds of chemotherapy which culminated in a stem cell transplant in late July in an attempt to eliminate the disease.

Sabo currently resides in Pawnee with his wife and daughters and works for the Hospital Sisters Health System.

He travels to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for weekly follow-up exams.

Friends and families of Sabo will be hosting the benefit at the Firefighters / Postal Club on 940 West Lake Shore Drive in Springfield from 12 – 5 PM. The event will include a silent auction, DJ and food. A 50/50 raffle with a cash prize will also take place.

Proceeds will go toward offsetting Sabo’s medical costs.

Further information and updates about the benefit are available here.
