SPRINGFIELD – Authorities were on scene inside the Carnival at the Illinois State Fair Saturday night after a teenage girl was stabbed.
Illinois State Police (ISP) received a call on Saturday, August 20, for an incident involving several juveniles, resulting in a 16-year-old girl being injured due to a stabbing.
ISP troopers were on scene at the fairgrounds immediately and recovered the weapon used in the alleged stabbing. They say their preliminary investigation indicates this was an isolated incident. A 17-year-old female suspect was arrested, and the victim was transported to an area hospital. That victim is expected to be released from the hospital later Sunday evening.
The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office and the Springfield Police Department are assisting with patrols on the perimeter of the fairgrounds, and the Conservation Police assist inside the fairgrounds.
ISP officials encourage fairgoers to call law enforcement if they witness any criminal activity within the fair.
The Illinois State Fair runs through the end of today, Sunday, August 21, in Springfield.
