Home Explosion Claims Two Lives in Fairmount

FAIRMOUNT -- An early morning fire killed two people in Vermillion County Tuesday.

Fire officials in Fairmount are still investigating what they have labeled as an explosion at a home in the community just southwest of Danville.

Fire chief Dave Ferber said crews noticed debris blown from the house upon arrival.

"There was some rubble burning in the area, some rubble in the basement that was burning," Ferber told WAND News. "There was some rubble around the outside of the house that was burning. Fire crews knocked that fire down fairly quickly and then started an investigation into, you know, what had happened."

The Vermillion County Coroner said the names of the victims will not be released until after autopsies have been performed.
