The Sangamon County Sheriff’s office has released details of a shooting in rural Springfield Tuesday.
Deputies were called to a home in the 2700 block of Vigal Road late Tuesday morning and found two people outside the home with what appeared to be gunshot wounds, according to a press release. Both were taken to an area hospital and treated.
An initial investigation found the shooting happened after an argument between 41-year-old Robert D. Abner and three other people at the home. Investigators believe the disturbance escalated, and Abner fired shots, hitting one man and continuing shooting at others. They say a man involved in the incident, who had a license to carry a concealed weapon, took his gun from a vehicle in the driveway and shot Abner. After Abner was shot, the incident ended and the Sheriff’s Office was called through 911.
Abner is being held on charges of aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
