Mt. Pulaski – Agribusiness The Andersons has confirmed to WAND News it is closing its corn cob mills in the Logan County town of Mt. Pulaski.
Twenty jobs will be lost in the shutdown. Production will be moved to a mill in Delphi, Indiana.
The plant sits along Illinois Route 121 and can easily be recognized by its large piles of corn cobs. The cobs are used for a variety of industrial purposes and energy markets.
Workers were told of the closing on Wednesday. Mayor Jim Fuhrer told WAND’s Doug Wolfe he did not receive notice from the company that it was ceasing operations and only learned of the closure at an American Legion meeting.
The company tells WAND News it has been, “seeking a variety of options that would keep the operations at Mt. Pulaski running. None of those options materialized and we recently came to the decision to close the plant which, unfortunately, impacts 20 of our employees during the holiday season.”
The Andersons says it is investigating options as to what to do with the facility. It does not expect any disruption in service to its customers.
The Andersons purchased the Mt. Pulaski mills in October 2012.
