Bicyclist injured in Macon County hit-and-run

MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) – Deputies say a driver hit a bicyclist in Macon County recently, prompting a search for a suspect.

A press release says it happened at about 6:48 p.m. on Oct. 30, when the car hit a bicyclist riding westbound on the north side of Route 36 from behind and drove away in the direction of Decatur. The person on the bike needed treatment for serious injuries and went to a hospital.

The crash was near Route 36 and Shaw Road, which is near the town of Casner.

Investigators recovered a piece of bumper from the car believed to be involved, which they say is a red Chevrolet Impala. The car likely has front passenger bumper or wheel well damage.

Deputies want anyone with information on the hit-and-run, which they say is the Crime of the Week, to call Crime Stoppers at 423-TIPS. Details submitted through that number can be anonymous and could lead to a reward of at least $500 if they lead to an arrest.
