CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The City of Champaign is providing an update on the Garden Hills Drainage project.
Phase 2 started in November of 2023, and work continues to progress on schedule.

The City posted on Facebook that contractors have already installed more than 370 steel H-piles which will serve as the structural backbone of the retaining wall along the northern side of the detention basins.
"Although this work is mostly hidden from view on the surface, it marks the completion of the first major milestone in the project’s construction," the City posted.

Contractors have started excavating the detention basins and will begin constructing the retaining wall itself in the coming weeks. Completion of the basin excavation and wall construction is anticipated to be done by early fall.
