URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - The Urbana Police Department is partnering with LexisNexis to implement the Desk Officer Reporting System (DORS), enabling community members to file police reports online from home.

This initiative is part of UPD's effort to modernize policing and provide 24/7 access to report filing.

Currently the department is using an outdated online form for filing reports, but the new system will enhance reporting options.

Community members will be able to submit reports, have them approved by an on-duty UPD Sergeant, and receive a copy via email. The incident will also be automatically recorded in the official UPD record management system.

The Investigations division will review reports the day after they are filed to determine if follow-up or clarification is needed from the community member. This process enables on-duty officers to concentrate on higher-priority calls while allowing community members to file reports online easily.

The Champaign Police Department utilizes this same system for its community members.

An official launch date is still to be announced, however, UPD is hoping to activate the system by April 16, 2025.
