EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) — Police are releasing the name of a person who died in a standoff in Effingham.
It happened at the TA Truck Stop Friday night.
Effingham Police said 33-year-old Jamon S. Weaver from Georgia was a suspect in a bank robbery in Michigan Thursday.
Shelby County Township Police Dept. in Michigan were notified of a bank robbery at a Bank of America just after 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police said Weaver walked into the bank and demanded money from a teller and then left on a motorized scooter.
After an investigation, police said Weaver drove the scooter to a semi-truck that was parked nearby.
Police tracked the semi to the truck stop in Effingham. That is where they said Weaver barricaded himself in the semi with a gun.
The standoff with police lasted about eight hours. The Illinois State Police SWAT team and Crisis Negotiating Team were called in to help. After negotiations, they said Weaver took his own life.
“Make no mistake about it – if you come to Shelby Township to commit a crime, our department will track you down no matter where you try to hide," said Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide.
