COLES COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - The Coles County Sheriff’s Investigations is still seeking community help in the March 1974, Cold Case murder of Linda D. Shriver from Mattoon.
Shriver was a graduate of Mattoon High School class of 1970, only 23 years of age at the time of her murder. She was described by many as kind, innocent, and having “excellent moral conduct.” She was last seen in Mattoon driving a light blue 1969 Mercury Montego four door.
This case is over 40 years old; multiple people have been interviewed, and many suspects have been questioned. A witness recalls seeing men trying to enter her vehicle.
The Coles County Sheriff's Office hopes to re-interview people with information during that time. This includes their families or people whom they may have confided in over the years.
Many people alive during the time of the murder may not have social media, so police are asking people to spread the word. If you do not have firsthand information about her death but have information on people who may, the police will take any credible leads. No lead is insignificant; if you have moved out of the area and were interviewed in the past please contact the Coles County Sheriff's Office to update your information.
You can reach the sheriff's office by phone at 217-348-7332.
