TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — The Christian County Coroner is releasing the names of two people who were killed when an RV was struck by a train in the eastern edge of Christian County on Thursday.

The crash occurred a little after noon on E 2300 North Rd. near Illinois Route 48. The initial investigation shows that the RV was traveling east on E 2300 North Rd. while the train was northbound. The RV crossed the tracks and was struck.
This RV was struck by a train in the eastern edge of Christian County on April 25, 2024. Two people were killed in the crash.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Blue Mound Fire Department, N/S Railroad Police, Illinois State Police and the Christian County Coroner’s Office responded to the call.

Christian County Coroner Amy Calvert Winans identified the driver of the RV as 73-year-old Joseph M. Kessler of Sarasota, Florida. His passenger has been identified as his wife 73-year-old Cristina Kessler also of Sarasota, Florida.Â
Preliminary autopsy results show they both died of multiple blunt force injuries due to recreational vehicle and train collision.
According to family, they had been on a journey to complete their visit to all 50 states and nearly all U.S. National Parks.Â
