Mendoza endorses Pritzker for Governor

ILLINOIS (WAND) – Rep. Rodney Davis has called for an investigation into J.B. Pritzker after reports of a possible tax break scheme surfaced.

Davis’ office says he and other lawmakers asked the U.S. Attorney to look into what Cook County Inspector General Patrick Blanchard called a “scheme to defraud” taxpayers. Pritzker, the Democratic candidate in the 2018 Illinois gubernatorial race, is accused of taking toilets out of a Gold Coast mansion in order to make it uninhabitable and claim tax breaks.

The Chicago Sun-Times first released a confidential report that claimed Pritzker made “false representations” to the Cook County Assessor’s office in order to claim the breaks. It says the breaks were valued at $330,000.

Pritzker said he believed the report was made public to embarrass him. He added that he will follow all recommendations from Blanchard, who said Cook County should recover the money from the Pritzker family.

WAND-TV has reached out to Davis’ office to request a copy of the letter asking for the investigation.
