DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A long-time Decatur meat packing company said Tuesday it's made progress with Kroger after previously announcing it would pull its products from the store's shelves.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Heinkel's Packing Co. said Kroger reached out and is working to resolve the issue.
Heinkel's said Monday it had years of ongoing issues with Kroger over non-payment of delivered goods. The meat packing company didn't elaborate on the issue.
Kroger has not returned messages seeking comment from WAND News.
Heinkel's said it may reverse its decision to pull products from the store.
"This is a very positive step forward — one that could soon mean greater access to our incredible, locally-made, great-tasting products in Kroger stores once again," Heinkel's said in a Facebook post.
While they continue to work toward a resolution, all Heinkel’s products remain available at wholesale prices at their 22nd Street location in Decatur.
Heinkel's started in Decatur in 1912 on East Eldorado Street, according to the company's website. Albert Heinkel started making sausage in the back of his store that served as both a grocery store and meat market. Albert's sons moved the business to North 22nd Street in 1945. The store is now in its 4th generation of family ownership.
In addition to Kroger, Heinkel products are available at a variety of locations, including County Market, Save A Lot, and Schnucks.
