Barnshaw has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and unlawful use of a weapon. 

MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - A missing Topeka child was located in Mattoon Tuesday. 

According to Topeka police, officers responded to a welfare check of a Kansas residence Tuesday morning and upon arrival, found a man and a woman dead inside the home. 

Police said they then began a search for a missing child who was believed to live at the residence. 

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation issued an Amber alert, which said that the boy was last seen with Christopher Barnshaw, 42, who was driving a white Lexus sedan. 

According to Mattoon PD, an officer on a traffic stop on Route 16 noticed the suspect vehicle passing by and started following it eastbound towards Charleston. Several officers were called to the area and pulled the vehicle over at the intersection of Route 16 and Beechtree Rd. 

The child was located in the backseat of the vehicle unharmed. 

Barnshaw was taken into custody by Mattoon Police without incident. Mattoon PD said a gun was located in the vehicle during the arrest. 

Barnshaw has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and unlawful use of a weapon.

Mattoon PD is working with the Topeka, Kansas Police Department to reunite the child with a family member.

The investigation is ongoing. At this time, no further information has been released.
