Springfield, IL- One of the largest road construction projects in decades has now been completed in Springfield.
Planning for the MacArthur extension began back in 1994 when a local developer proposed extending MacArthur to the city's growing south side. It wasn't until 2007 that the project got under way.
The MacArthur extension was opened to traffic Friday to much fanfare and a ribbon cutting ceremony.Â
It's estimated that more than 26,000 cars a day will travel that stretch of roadway and that could mean more customers to local businesses.Â
