CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A new high-rise may be coming to Campustown in Champaign.
CORE, a Chicago-based firm, has a plan to build a 17-story, 175-foot mixed use building on Sixth St. It will be where The Clybourne and Firehaus bars are located.
The building will have commercial space on the ground floor and residential spaces higher.
It is not clear what could happen to the bars if the plan submitted to Champaign's City Council goes forward.
The council will vote on two issues related to the project. One would let the city use eminent domain to acquire the alley north of The Clybourne.
The second would let the city make an agreement with CORE to improve that alley at its own cost. The alley would be widened to 20 feet.
