DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A woman attacked a man with steak knives in front of their child, police say.
A sworn statement says the dispute happened on the night on Sept. 8, when 24-year-old Rachel Whitaker came home drunk. Police say she began arguing with the man, who is 65, after asking for him to take her car keys. He then went to a bedroom to help their 1-year-old child.
Police say Whitaker came into the room holding three knives in both hands and demanding that the man hand over the child. She then took her to the garage and put her in a car.
The statement says Whitaker became angry after demanding her car keys and finding out the man hid them, then grabbed three steak knives from a bench and started swinging them at him. He pinned her to a table and tried to remove them, but ended up with a cut on his forearm.
Police say he eventually did get the knives away from Whitaker before calling officers to the scene. The statement says officers discovered a large glass smoking tool in the garage. Â
Whitaker faces charges of aggravated domestic battery of a senior, aggravated battery of a senior and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond is set at $7,500 in Macon County.
