CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Champaign residents can expect a property tax increase after the Parkland College Board of Trustees approved the 2025 property tax levy.

A property tax increase for the 2025 fiscal year was during Wednesday's board meeting. They also approved extending the president's contract.

College President Pamela Lau will serve through June 30, 2028. Lau began working at Parkland College in 1995, teaching developmental reading part-time. She became president of the college in January 2023.

The board called a public hearing before approving the proposed property tax levy. The college requested a levy of $37.3 million. The board said the new amount will support the college's education, operational, maintenance protection, health and safety, and tort liability funds, as well as other expenses.

The trustees also moved to abate the tax levied on general obligation bonds for 2024. The $5.86 million Series 2018C bonds will fund the "College Master Plan."

The board of trustees also approved other necessary items, including the 2026-27 academic calendar, local necessary contracts for business, grant applications, and personal appointments and modifications.
