URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - Trustees approved the closure of the older University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign.
Trustees approved the closure of the University of Illinois Chicago’s College of Medicine branch that had been hosted on the Urbana-Champaign campus.
The final group of Chicago students graduated in 2022.
UIC operations that were hosted on the Urbana-Champaign campus have now been integrated into other College of Medicine campuses in Chicago, Peoria, and Rockford.
This came following the decision in 2015 to establish the Carle Illinois College of Medicine.
The new Carle Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana-Champaign is the world’s first engineering-based medical school.
The new college graduated its inaugural class on May 15, 2022 and welcomed its Class of 2027 to campus last month.
