RANTOUL - Clean up crews are demolishing three water towers on the former Chanute Air Force Base.
It's part of the Air Force's major clean up plan for the entire base.
The second of three old water towers is being torn down this week.
The village no longer has use for the 3 towers because the population decreased when the base closed back in 1993.
If the towers were to stay, there's also the risk of lead based paint getting into the ground or air.
The crews are taking extra precautions to make sure the lead isn't released during demolition.
The 4th tower is being repainted and refurbished.
It'll still be used at Rantoul's airport and for village water.
