Two Israeli political heavyweights say they will join forces in upcoming elections in an effort by their parties to unseat Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid are former partners who both served as prime minister in a rotation agreement in a coalition government in 2021-22. Bennett said the new government on its first day would establish a state commission of inquiry into the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023, attacks if elected, an issue that has dogged Netanyahu. Bennett and Lapid have ideological differences but enjoyed a close working relationship during their short-lived coalition.
