The chairman of prestigious law firm Paul Weiss has resigned from that position after emails revealed his exchanges with Jeffrey Epstein. Brad Karp will remain at the firm where he's practiced for 40 years and has served as chairman since 2008. He said in a statement from the firm that “recent reporting has created a distraction and has placed a focus on me that is not in the best interests” of Paul Weiss. Emails recently released by the Department of Justice as part of its Epstein investigation show Karp thanking Epstein for hosting an unforgettable evening in 2015. Karp also sought Epstein's help in 2016 for Karp's son's film career.

Seattle-based Starbucks was a small, regional chain when former CEO Howard Schultz acquired it in 1987 and made it a global brand. Now, other small chains are seeing explosive growth. Chinese chains like Luckin Coffee and Mixue also are getting into the mix. The chief operating officer of Starbucks says the company believes the way to stay on top is to open more cafes that offer both convenience and a comfortable place to linger.
The six people killed when a private jet crashed during takeoff at a Maine airport included an event planner on her way to Paris for a job and a corporate pilot who had recently joined the Texas law firm linked to the plane. The National Transportation Safety Board on Tuesday began its investigation while Bangor International Airport remained closed to preserve the scene. All six people aboard died in the Sunday evening crash as the nation’s massive winter storm was beginning to reach the area. They included four passengers and two crew members.
