Recovery efforts are underway in Hawaii after Tropical Storm Lala battered the archipelago and caused destructive flooding and widespread power outages. The storm on Tuesday was moving west far from the islands. Lala skirted the islands Sunday before weakening from a hurricane to a tropical storm. Officials say the storm caused one death. Hawaiian Electric says crews were working overnight to restore power to thousands. The utility says inspections are showing significant damage. Authorities say many large trees fell in Maui’s upcountry region and toppled power lines and damaged infrastructure. Officials say crews on the Big Island were working to clear and restore roads.
