A federal panel made up of President Donald Trump's appointees has approved his plan to build a massive ballroom on the site of the former White House East Wing. Approval came Thursday from six of the seven commissioners on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. One commissioner didn't vote because he was the initial architect on the project. Trump’s decision in October to demolish the East Wing prompted a public outcry when it began. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has sued in federal court to halt construction of the ballroom. A court decision in the case is pending.
