ROSEMONT, Ill. (WAND) — The Big Ten Conference Council of Presidents and Chancellors announced Wednesday that it unanimously approved a five-year contract extension for Commissioner Tony Petitti.

The extension will run through June 2033. Petitti has been with the Big Ten Conference since May 2023.

Before that, he served as deputy commissioner and chief operating officer of Major League Baseball.

According to the Big Ten Conference, Petitti was also president and chief executive officer of the MLB Network from 2008-2014, and the executive vice president of CBS Sports from 2002-2008. The conference added that he additionally held multiple positions at ABC Sports. 

"Tony has provided outstanding vision for the Conference through extremely turbulent times. We’re thankful for his leadership and appreciate his spirit of innovation and collaboration as we continue to navigate the changing landscape of college sports," said COP/C Chair and President of Indiana University Pamela Whitten in a statement.
